Nothing In This World

An acoustic intro leads into the gentle breeze that is Tracy Cruz's solo debut effort entitled Feel' osophy, and the impact is palpable. As this amazing songstress glides onto the first track named "Nothing In This World," you're assured that you are in for an authentic soul experience.  At times compared to Jill Scott and Ledisi, Cruz is a solid vocalist and a poetic songwriter, whose work stands up against those impressive comparisons. A gifted songwriter, Cruz provides on Feel a journey through her life, love, and soul. Using various vocal arrangements and tempos, it is clear that Cruz and producer Allen Ross were on a mission to develop an atmosphere that conveyed the emotion of Cruz's heartfelt lyrics.

Songs like "Amigo" and "Let Me Sing" intentionally provide a calming aura, and like a Faith Evans or Toni Braxton, Cruz doesn't settle upon simply hitting the notes, but floats around them, creating an impact that is both more ethereal and truly electric. Beyond possessing a passionate, thick voice, Cruz shows herself a solid writer, penning meaningful songs with uplifting messages and catchy choruses. Efforts like the mellow "Weathered Down," the empowering "Can't Change Me" and the strong, late night ballads "Blue Eyes" and "I Breathe You" make their impact lyrically and emotionally. Probably the best track that expresses Tracy Cruz's style and passion is the song "My Valentine." Throughout she expresses what her music does for her and what she hopes it does for her listeners. Cruz's desire to enchant her listeners beyond the mere entertainment level makes it nearly impossible to simply casually listen to this clear labor of love. Her dedication to her craft is clearly shown by the immense chemistry she has with each and every track. Highly recommended.
