New Artist: RhapsodE

RhapsodE is comfortable taking the stage solo for a moving spoken word set or holding down a full band to deliver songs that move people to nod their heads and sing along. Her words and youthful wisdom are so well received, they garner support from multiple demographics and in varied settings throughout the United States and abroad. With such a range of support, it takes no time to hear and see that RhapsodE is carving out a space all her own. RhapsodE calls her style Spoken Soul music; a fusion of spoken word, soul, jazz, hip-hop and rock served with a side of live music. RhapsodE released her debut CD Spoke Inward independently in June 2006. The album is a unique project that blends lyrical prowess and musical giftedness. The album has received stellar reviews by listening audiences and a five-star rating from CD Baby music distribution company. RhapsodE has shared her music in numerous cities, countless venues and has been featured at colleges, festivals, churches and premier clubs around the U.S.

RhapsodE's spoken soul style has been the opening act for many great music acts such as Mos Def, Jaguar Wright, Fertile Ground, Kindred, Talaam Acey, Ursula Rucker and Gerald Veasley. She has shared the stage with a number of Def Jam poets and other artists such as Eric Roberson, Byard Lancaster, Hersey Coles and Desdamona.

RhapsodE - Spoken Inward (2006)
Blending spoken word poetry, R&B, graceful singing with deep soul roots, and a hip hop flavor that oversees the entire sound, Minnesota's Rhapsode has laid claim to a style all her own. Literally using her voice as an instrument, the words spoken and sung here are filled with ambition, confidence, and most importantly, rhythm. Whether tip-toeing sing-song speak over a dense beat("M.E. National Bank") or slam-rapping over a beat-box backing track("I'll Admit"), the lyrics and sheer vocal prowess are mesmerizing. Sharing tales of a struggling young woman, this is far from a call for pity; Instead it focuses on the future and the bright skies that line the horizon. The resulting songs reflect the same positive outlook, expressed with brilliant wordplay straight from the dome of a talented woman who is ready to take life by the reigns and ride it out. © CD Baby
